The Blue Skies Community Fiddle Orchestra starts up our Zoom classes on Fridays from 6-7pm and our group classes on Saturdays in September 2024 at the Maberly Hall or Burgess Hall, under the direction of Cindy McCall.
The Zoom class started in 2020 and has continued on Friday nights from 6-7pm. It’s a fun vibe and an intermediate level class. Class starts Sept 20th.
There will be a beginner’s group, requires no experience, starting Oct 19th. This group is for all ages 8 and up to adults. Classes focus on the basic techniques of the fiddle, as well as the fundamentals of reading music and learning to play while having fun.. The beginner group typically practices together for a year or more before they join the Intermediate group. The class time is 1-2pm on Saturday afternoons. There is an Intermediate group, for students that have 1-2 years experience form 9-10am Saturdays. This group prepares students to join in the main group. The main Orchestra meets from 10:15 to 12:30 Saturdays. The main Orchestra performs throughout the year at community events, festivals and in the schools.
The classes are usually divided into three semesters, covering different materials and techniques throughout the year. Cost is $100 per term. Fiddles are available to rent at a cost of $10 a month.
Huge thanks to Tay Valley Township for the support and use of the Community halls to keep our group available to all the community.
